You cannot achieve good makeup without good tools – Francois Nars

Hi Loves,

Today I am going to talk about what I think is the most significant thing that you need for your makeup. As Francois Nars told above without a good tool, it is not possible to achieve the best makeup look irrespective of whatever costly makeup you use. You might have already guessed about it from the name, yes Today I want to introduce my Magic Wands or my Makeup Brushes in this post.

The importance of good makeup brushes

I started my journey with using hands, then cheap brushes from drugstores, makeup blenders and what not. I bought so many brushes of low budget just because I was not getting the perfect look I wanted. Either the foundation will not blend in all portions of face or eye-shadow look will be patchy. I am sure many of you have faced this or facing these issues too. The key reason for these issues are not using a good makeup brush. You might have already invested some money to buy the top foundation (You can find my favorite one here) or a great eye shadow like this, but it will not do you much good if the proper brushes are not collected in order to use it with. Using the accurate brush will bring out the actual quality of the high end makeup you are using.

How to identify a good makeup brush

Now the question is how do you identify a good brush? The best way to do that is to just swipe your fingers through the bristles of the brush. If it feels soft then that is the sign of a good brush. A rough feeling on the skin along with a hard bristle on the brush is a sign of not buying it however less expensive it might be. Also make sure that the bristles don’t fall out and the handles are strong with wood or plastic.

Another factor which I strongly believe is the brand of the brush, a good makeup brand generally makes a splendid brush. Generally, I read some reviews before buying. Another factor which sometimes people forget is there is always a specific brush for specific makeup. Like Foundation has a different brush than concealer or highlighter, contouring has a different brush than face powder. Same for eye makeup there are different brushes for base eyeshadow, coloring the edges, eyeliner etc. Also on the makeup brushes there are separate brushes depending on you are using liquid, cream or powder makeup. I would suggest to decide on your make up first and then decide brush depending on that.

A good brush investment – Is it worth it?

It is always a good idea to invest in a great brush, even if it may be costly. Many studies suggest that investing in a great brush will save a person money in the long run, because a high quality brush can be utilized for years. The secret is also to not purchase an entire set of great brushes at one time. Try to buy them periodically so that you will not put yourself in a financial crisis. A good brush can range from 25$ to 70$ depending on the quality and brand which I have found generally does the best job. There are costlier brushes too but those might be for specific purpose or made with animal hairs.

This must-have brush is used to apply and blend all kinds of foundation quickly on large areas. Its large, rounded shape and straight bristles are ideal for a high coverage, even foundation result. It can be used with liquid and cream foundations.

What’s Good about it:

It’s a super soft brush so it feels quite pleasant on the skin. It will always apply the foundation evenly and smoothly. The bristles are spread out in such a way that it covers a large area. I only do a few sweeps along my cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin and my makeup is done. I never felt the issue of streaking with this brush. It is best to be used with liquid or cream foundations. Also the wide shape of the brush allows the foundation to applied quickly. The quality is so good that you not will see any foundation being stuck with the bristles of the brush. The wooden handle is very nice to grip and the brush itself is quite lightweight. It is also very easy to clean and maintain.

Make Up For Ever 158 Double Ended Sculpting Brush

Brush Description

A must-have, dual-purpose brush featuring a rounded end and an angled end. Boasting two brushes in one, this double-ended brush is the perfect tool for powder application and sculpting. This brush can be used with loose and compact powders.

What’s Good about it

This is a two-in-one brush which will solve your purpose of both highlighting and contouring. The duo ended brush has one rounded ended designed for applying highlights and another angled edge side to be used for contours. This brush is again very soft on both sides and feels amazing against the skin! The angled side allows for maximum precision so you can control exactly where you are applying your makeup, and when it comes to contouring/sculpting this is very important.

I adore the fluffier side of the 158 brush to apply my highlighting powders on my cheeks and back towards my cheekbones. The large size of the brush helps me cover a lot of ground and do it quickly on the rush. Also because of its wavy in nature the finish was perfect and well blended.

I love the angled side of the brush because the angled shape always helps in precise application of contour

and it has a more tapered design so you can use it to make slightly more defined lines. The angle allows for you to strategically get under your cheekbones perfectly giving you the perfect contour.

This is a real in depth article about brushes. I do think brushes can make or break the way you apply make up. Although I am not much of a make up person, this information is good to have for when I go out to buy some brushes for myself and for my daughter.
