Venice Day 2 – Dreams, Desires & Destiny

“If you read a lot, nothing is as great as you’ve imagined. Venice is – Venice is better” – Fran Lebowitz

Hi Loves,

As you already know I have been writing about my Europe journey on my blog. If you have not read them yet you can read them here. Previously I wrote on my first day’s experience in Venice and recently. I received a lot of praise from some of my dear friends on that post, so I immediately decided let’s complete my journey. So here I am with my review of “Venice Day 2 – Dreams, Desires & Destiny” where my DREAMS became true, DESIRES were fulfilled and DESTINY brought me to this beautiful island.

Venice Day 2 – Dreams, Desires & Destiny

Our morning started with a massive breakfast of fastidious sweet and savory treats courtesy of our Airbnb host. We shared tea and breakfast with her chatting and listening stories of her life. One interesting thing I want to share -I asked her “Since Venice is so touristy and thousands of people come here everyday which causes long line for boats, so does that not affect your regular life causing difficulties?  To my utter surprise she said NO. Because the only industry that Venice has is tourism. It’s because tourists come so Venice residents can earn a living else they will not have any job, so tourists are their savior. Listening to this I really felt contented to contribute. I request everyone who is reading this to visit Venice if you are going to Europe. And encourage others to do too, so that these people can live.

Rialto Market

We went out and our first stop was the famous Rialto bridge which is an significant landmark crossing over the Grand Canal. On the opposite was a huge Rialto market where I did a lot of shopping. Leather items are best there and I bought bags for myself and my family. Also bought some souvenirs  especially a handmade Venetian# mask which was so awesome!! We also saw the local fish and vegetable market which felt like back home.

Murano – The Glass Island

After this we went out for a trip to a small island 30 min away from Venice – Murano.  Murano is also called the Glass island of Venice because it is famous for its glass making which is exported all over the world. The place we landed was a picture which you can just print and send as Christmas card to all your family. A silent canal with a few bridges and gandolas docked on the sides along the way.

As we started  walking we found out that the attraction was actually on the sides of the canal. Huge collections of colorful glass sculptures were displayed on each of the shops and after some time we stopped our game of judging which is the best. I have never seen glass work so stunning in my life. We also saw glass blowing live at the Glass museum and it was so fun to watch.

A hidden treasure

I was feeling hungry and when I asked my husband, he gave a witty smile and said, it will be a “Surprise”. I do not like surprises at all and whenever someone tells surprise, my aim in life becomes to somehow take that surprise out, I can’t wait. But seeing his witty smile and the atmosphere was so romantic, that I let him fulfill his surprise!! The surprise had a “pop” when he took me to a restaurant which does not have any name and is in a remote place away from the main canal.

But once I entered and they served me Vino (special Venetian wine prepared only by them in house) my mood began to flutter. It was sweet and strong which will make you feel in heaven!! The whole fish fry they served was so fresh and juicy along with the wine forced me to say to husband, “I am lucky to get you!!” Last but not the least came another sweet white wine with S shaped biscuits. The trick is you dip the biscuit into the wine, keep for 5 sec till it sucks the wine and the biscuit will become very sweet which comes out to be the desert. Never in my life had I experienced such an exotic lunch. Fully satisfied and a little sleepy, little dreamy we hopped over to our next destination.

Burano – The Lace Island

Our next stop was another island named Burano which a lacy twin of Murano. The specialty of this island is from 16th century, women on this island started making lace with needles and it became so popular in Europe that it is now known as the LACE island of Venice. I loved the lace work they do  and it is strange to see a remote island village has so many talents which very few people know about! Another specialty was all the houses were painted in bright multi colors which will make you feel like you fairyland!!

The Royal feeling

Our next stop was a totally unique and my first experience ever – an orchestra show in a 16th century Venetian Opera House – Teatro Malibran.  Italy being the birthplace of Opera, Opera houses in Venice are not only the homes of music and dance, they are also the sanctuary of creativity and imagination. As I entered the theatre, the golden decorations on the walls, the vintage chandeliers, 16th century art on the walls just put me in awe. We sat in one of the many balconies on the side from where the whole theatre could be seen. An automatic pleasure of royalty and dignity and it’s rich history led current through my body.

There were around 30 performers with different types of violin and other instruments. The ups and downs of the notes, the coordination of the performers with just a movement of a stick and the depth of music took me to an enchanted zone. There was no song but some of the music was so compassionate and poignant that it can bring tears. I would have definitely missed a lot in my life if I had not seen this.

The End

With our hearts fulfilled, we just started walking holding hands without speaking a word. We then went for dinner at a wonderful restaurant (Taverna del Campiello Remer) which was another hidden treasure. Just on the side of the canal, the only lights in this place were the candles. There was person playing a piano. Hearing the piano music with wine in hand and looking at the boats floating by was another moment which I will cherish for long time. I got a huge fish full grilled with veggies which was so fresh and tasty.

Venice Day 2 - Dreams, Desires & Destiny

Our last stop of night was a bar (Bacaro Jazz) which was so unique and a little sassy. I did not even notice since I sat down when I looked at the ceiling of this bar. The whole ceiling had bras hanging from the top of multiple colors, shapes, sizes. I got to know that girls or women who come here can just open their bra, give to the shop and they will hang at their place. All these were actually given by different women who visited the bar. When I was asked if I want to do the same, I said “NO WAY”. The cocktails were awesome and they look so cool, totally loved it!!
